British Values

At Rakegate Primary School we recognise the importance of preparing our pupils for life in a diverse, multi-faith and multi-cultural community. We recognise this as a responsibility and a privilege.

The Department for Education states that there is a need, to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of

• democracy
• the rule of law
• individual liberty
• mutual respect
• tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs

At Rakegate Primary School, we believe it is important for pupils to develop a better understanding of the country they live in and the values it upholds. As such, these British values are actively promoted throughout the school. They are embedded throughout the curriculum as well as being taught discretely through the Religious Education curriculum (RE), Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE), and are further nurtured through the school’s ethos and promotion of spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) understanding.
